On Saturday, 10th May 2014, Laxmi Charitable Trust (LCT) had arranged Camp Organizers’ meeting with the main purpose of having better relationship between the Trust and the camp organizers. 35 organizers from various organizations were present for the meeting. They were from Khed, Mahad, Srivardhan, Uran, Karjat, Tala, Nagothane, and Thane. It was a good gathering and ideas were exchanged among themselves about conducting a camp and all of them expressed their gratitude towards LCT for the noble work of quality eye care in community.
The program started with Welcome speech by Mr. Sachin Bhumkar. Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar sir then addressed the gathering. In his speech he expressed his gratitude towards all the camp organizers, as without their involvement, reaching out to community would not have been possible for the Trust. While emphasizing the need of the work he pointed out that the work done by Laxmi Charitable Trust till now is a drop in the ocean. There still lot to do and the Trust has many plans to reach the unreached.
The purpose of the meeting was to educate all, regarding how LCT is finding it difficult to continue with free cataract surgeries as the cost is going so high. To emphasis this in his presentation Mr. Mohan Hindupur first revealed the statistics of surgeries done free and paid, with details of cost of surgeries and cost for holding camps at various places. Later he showed a film giving information about the processes through which the patient goes through, when brought to LCT for surgery. All participants appreciated the efforts we take on every patient, brought for surgery from camps. All of them even agreed that they need to shoulder some financial burden of free surgeries. As a result one of our camp organizers, who had arranged our camp on Sunday, 11th May, immediately offered a donation of Rs. 10,000/- for surgeries from his camps.
Later Mr. Hindupur explained a new plan of Laxmi Charitable Trust of getting patients for free surgeries without holding camps. Inspired by the success story of Swades Foundation in Mhasala, Laxmi Charitable Trust is planning to train village volunteers/health workers to identify patients with eye problems by door to door survey and then getting these selected patients to Panvel for further treatment. All participants welcomed this idea also and promised to work towards success of this plan.
Finally the meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Jitendra Jadhav.
